SAHELI WOMEN
Created in Rajasthan, India, in collaboration with Saheli Women, a female-led social enterprise founded by Madhu Vaishnav, this photographic series emerged through time spent within the ateliers and surrounding villages in 2023. The work was created during an immersion program hosted by Vaishnav and developed through shared time, conversation and observation.
Rather than focusing on the finished garment, the photographs move through the lives, relationships and daily rhythms surrounding textile work: ateliers, kitchens, courtyards, village streets and homes. Women sewing, cooking, laughing, waiting, working and moving through shared spaces. Daughters arriving after school to do their homework while their mothers continue working.
The series follows moments of labour, friendship, care and community, observing how knowledge, opportunity and everyday life are carried across generations.
Created through presence and reciprocity, the photographs remain attentive to moments of stillness, humour, fatigue, pride and quiet strength that emerge through daily life.
Selected works from the series were presented in Times Square and at the United Nations in New York.
